Q: What does the price of the trip include? What are the extra costs?

A:  For our Halifax based trips, the price includes the best guides in the business with full commentary, transportation, small groups (max 14), dorm style overnights (except Halifax) in 4-10 person rooms, guided walks/hikes, beaches, bonfires, swimming, wildlife encounters, national and provincial park access, ferry/bridge passes and guaranteed outstanding value!

Optional activities with our Halifax based trips include discounted group rates on whale watching, kayaking, sailing and biking.

With food, we’ll make grocery store stops to keep you food costs low and you can choose to picnic and cook yourself, join in on a group meal or visit a local café or restaurant.

Q: What sort of budget should I plan for my trip?

A: $15-$30 per day generally feeds and waters the average Salty Bear traveler.

Q: In what sort of places do we sleep? Do I have to book my own accommodation?

A: A good night’s sleep is vital to a happy trip and all our accommodations are clean, comfortable and unique. All locations include linens and do not accept sleeping bags. All are equipped with kitchen facilities, internet hook ups and feature excellent scenic views!

For our Halifax based trips, all en route accommodations are included in the pricing except Halifax and therefore each traveler is responsible for booking their accommodations in Halifax.

Q: Do I have to book the activities?

A: No. Our guides will ask you which ones you’d like to participate in and help you get set up with them. Pay only for the ones in which you wish to participate.

Activities with our trips include whale watching, kayaking, sailing, biking and walking/hiking.

Q: Are there cheap group meals or can I cook for myself?

A: Both! All our accommodations are equipped with full kitchens, which you are welcome to use. We also promote picnic style lunches when the weather cooperates or you may choose to go eat at a local restaurant or café on your own schedule.

Q: What is the weather like? Do I need my fur-lined underwear?

A: You can definitely bring them, but summers are warm on the East Coast. Humidity is low and temperatures range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.

For example, because you’ll be hiking and whale watching in the same day, we recommend layers. The weather changes, so change with it! Bring your swimmers, flip flops and a pair of hiking shoes.

Q: What are the buses like?

A: Safe & Sexy! We travel in comfortable, clean 15 passenger buses that are insured and inspected according to the highest provincial and national standard.
